Otis’s Sun Shield

Otis is a young boy living with cancer, diagnosed when he was just a few months old after his family noticed swelling in his stomach and unusual bruising. What followed has been a long and challenging journey, with months of intensive treatment beginning so early in his life.

Despite everything he has been through, Otis is a happy, playful little boy with a big personality. His family describe him as boisterous, resilient, and full of joy, even while enduring the pain and challenges that come with ongoing treatment.

Over the past 10 months, Otis has spent the majority of his time in hospital, undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, major surgery, and preparing for further radiation treatment. His care continues at home, where his days are structured around feeding tubes, medications, and a strict schedule that runs around the clock.

Since returning home between treatments, spending time outside is something Otis loves. Simple moments like playing with the garden hose bring him happiness and a sense of normal life. However, due to his condition, he cannot safely use public playgrounds or come into contact with grass or sand, limiting his ability to play freely.

At home, the backyard is currently incomplete, with part of the patio removed and no suitable sheltered space for Otis to safely be outside. Without protection from the sun and a clean, controlled environment, his time outdoors is restricted.

Otis’s family would love a safe, undercover outdoor area where he can play, explore, and enjoy being outside without risk. A purpose-built space would allow him to continue experiencing joy, connection, and normal childhood moments, even during treatment.

After everything Otis has been through, a space like this would bring comfort, freedom, and happiness to his everyday life.

Your support can help create a safe and life-changing space for Otis and his family.
