James' Bathroom

James is a quiet and thoughtful young man who enjoys computers and spending time with his family. Before becoming unwell, weekends were spent exploring Western Australia together, walking along the coast, visiting waterfalls, and making the most of the outdoors with his parents and brother, Jack.

Two years ago, James' life changed when he was diagnosed with a serious illness. His treatment was long and intensive, including a stem cell transplant that placed enormous strain on his body. During his recovery, James developed sepsis, leaving him with lasting physical impairments that continue to affect his mobility and independence.

One of the biggest challenges James now faces is something many of us take for granted, showering safely. Because of his reduced mobility and balance, stepping over the existing shower hob has become difficult and unsafe, creating a constant risk of falling. What was once a simple daily routine is now one of the biggest obstacles in his home.

For James, maintaining his independence is incredibly important. A purpose-built accessible bathroom would allow him to shower safely, confidently, and with dignity, while giving his family peace of mind knowing he can move around the space much more safely.

An accessible bathroom would transform James' everyday life. It would remove unnecessary barriers, restore confidence, and allow him to focus on continuing his recovery rather than worrying about the risks of everyday tasks.
