Georgia's Backyard

Georgia, a beautiful 8-year-old, faces a series of overwhelming challenges. Born with MED13L Syndrome, a rare genetic condition with only a few hundred diagnoses worldwide, Georgia has an intellectual disability, autism, ADHD, behavioural difficulties, mobility issues, medication-resistant epilepsy, and is significantly immunocompromised. Her condition has resulted in frequent hospital admissions—since January alone, she has taken four ambulance rides, undergone six general anaesthetics, and endured seven hospital stays at Perth Children's Hospital.

Due to her lack of awareness of danger, trips to parks and playgrounds are full of challenges, making outdoor play difficult and unsafe. Although Georgia loves using the swing set in the front yard, the risks are high as she navigates steps and could potentially reach the road through the gate.

At the back of the house, an old pool and splintering deck further limit Georgia's ability to safely play outdoors. Recognising the urgent need for a safe space where she can enjoy outdoor activities, the Build Now Foundation is committed to transforming Georgia's backyard. By removing the unsafe pool and revitalising the deck, we aim to create a safe, secure, and stimulating play space that meets Georgia's unique needs.

This new space will not only give Georgia the opportunity to play freely and safely but also provide her family with peace of mind, knowing she can enjoy the outdoors without the constant risk to her safety. Together, we can make a significant difference in Georgia’s daily life, allowing her to experience joy and freedom in a secure environment tailored just for her.
