Arlo’s Lego Room

Arlo, a cheeky and funny 5-year-old, has faced an extraordinary journey since moving with his family into their “forever home” in February. After a traumatic home invasion in 2023, his family was excited to create a safe and happy space where Arlo could enjoy his very own LEGO-themed room. But life took an unexpected turn.

In April, Arlo caught a virus from his sister, Mabel. Initially thought to be a typical childhood illness, weeks went by with no improvement. When blood tests revealed high infection levels, Arlo's parents were told to rush him to the emergency room. A series of tests and scans eventually led to devastating news: what was first believed to be pneumonia was instead a mass pressing on his lung. The word “oncology” soon entered their lives, bringing with it the harsh reality of Arlo's diagnosis Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer.

The tumour, located in his chest cavity, was compressing his left lung and needed immediate treatment. Since then, Arlo's life has revolved around rigorous chemotherapy, frequent hospital stays, and a gruelling schedule of 32 radiation sessions. Each session required him to be placed under general anaesthesia, five days a week, for over six weeks. Amidst this intense routine, he's also endured complications like radiation burns and multiple admissions due to his compromised immune system.

Despite these hardships, Arlo's spirit remains unbreakable. His trademark cheeky smile and humour have shone through, reminding his family and everyone around him of his incredible resilience.

This room will be more than just a decorated space; it will be a sanctuary where Arlo can be a kid again, surrounded by the playful world he loves.
