Dash's Bathroom
Dash's Bathroom
Dash is a happy, cheeky young boy with a great sense of humour and a love for being outdoors. He loves playgrounds, swings, slides, trampolines and swimming, and at school he enjoys science experiments, excursions and getting involved in sports like AFL and soccer.
Dash's journey began before he was even born, when his mum's waters unexpectedly broke at just 21 weeks. Following complications around his birth, Dash suffered a stroke and has since undergone multiple brain surgeries. He lives with hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy, which affects the left side of his body, as well as his speech, eating and mobility.
Despite everything he has faced, Dash continues to surprise his family with the progress he makes. He understands much more than he can express and now uses a communication device to help him share what he wants and needs. While he continues to gain independence, he still requires assistance with many everyday activities, including bathing and personal care.
The family's current bathroom is an old, small space that simply doesn't work for Dash's needs. A narrow doorway, recessed shower with a raised hob, limited space and an inaccessible vanity make moving equipment around difficult and helping Dash in and out of the bathroom challenging and unsafe, particularly when surfaces become wet.
We're transforming the bathroom into a safe, accessible and functional space designed around Dash. By opening up the room, improving the shower access and creating more accessible cabinetry and fixtures, we can give Dash greater independence while making everyday care safer and easier for his family.
It might seem like just a bathroom, but for Dash and his family, it's a space they use multiple times every single day. This transformation will give him greater freedom, safety and independence as he continues to grow.
Your support can help create a bathroom that allows Dash to do more for himself and gives his family a safer, easier way to support him every day.
