Matilda's Art Studio
At just 12, Matilda was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. A malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour. She was rushed to Perth, where she underwent 24 hours of spinal surgery, 33 rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, lung surgery, and months of rehab to learn to walk again.
She spent her 13th birthday in isolation, starting chemo and braiding her hair to be made into a wig. A kind nurse gifted her a paint-by-numbers kit and that's where her love of art began.
Now home after 15 months in hospital, Matilda is still undergoing maintenance chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which keeps her immunocompromised and sometimes unable to attend school or big social gatherings.
Her new art studio, made possible by the Build Now Foundation, will give her a safe space to paint, create, and dream. She's also discovered a love of using her Cricut, making personalised mugs and cards.
Her next big dream is to start paint and crunch events for small children.

Matilda expresses herself, finds comfort, and grows her confidence through her art.
Spending her days in her art studio with her dog, Sebastian, makes it even more special.
Thank you to Build Now for creating this incredible space not just for Matilda, but for all three of our girls. It is where countless creations will happen and lifelong memories will be made.
She has now got all the tools to start a successful little part time job and She can't wait for her Paint and Crunch workshops, sharing the fun with young kids, a true passion of hers.
