Henry's Basketball Court

Henry is a 5 year old boy living with high risk neuroblastoma, diagnosed just one week before he was due to start kindy. Since then, much of his young life has been spent in hospital, undergoing intensive treatment and facing long periods away from home, his family, and the life he once knew.

Before his diagnosis, Henry was a happy, energetic little boy who loved Pokémon, Spider-Man, and spending time outdoors. But over the past year, his world has been turned upside down. He has missed out on school, friendships, and the simple joy of being a kid, with most of his social interaction limited to time spent on the hospital ward.

Since returning home, being outside has become one of Henry’s greatest sources of happiness. It’s where he feels most like himself again, especially when he’s playing alongside his brother. Running, jumping, and moving freely has played a huge role in rebuilding his strength and confidence after treatment.

Unfortunately, the current outdoor space is not safe or suitable for the boys. With no secure or functional play area, Henry’s family worries about him running towards the road, limiting their ability to let him play freely. Broken equipment like the trampoline and swing has also taken away some of the few activities he once loved.

Henry’s family simply want a safe space where both boys can play together, bond, and enjoy being kids, especially during times when they are unable to leave the house. A secure basketball area and functional backyard would allow Henry to continue building his strength, regain his independence, and experience the joy of normal childhood moments again.

After everything Henry has been through, a space like this would make a meaningful difference to his recovery, wellbeing, and happiness.
